Intimate gatherings are a great way to spend time with those we hold dear and reconnect over a delicious dinner or picnic. We hold our annual family harvest dinner here and have used the orchard and our barn as the perfect backdrop. There is nothing like celebrating a wonderful family in the setting of this beautiful farm. Scroll down the page to see examples of some of our dinners and themes. The very first Dinner at Sunset took place among our apple trees on a warm September evening. The menu was simple, using things grown at the farm topped off with a delicious gingerbread cake for dessert. Photography courtesy of Amanda Perkins Photography
In 2014, our small gathering was inspired by "Out of Africa." We used mosquito netting, animal printed fabrics, dried grasses from the farm and an assortment of collected props to set the "safari" atmosphere. The menu was still locally themed with most of the ingredients grown on our farm.
This year we made use of our glorious flower field and had a dinner inspired by Claude Monet's time in Giverny. Using a cookbook with Monet's own recipes, we prepared a dinner with almost exclusively local ingredients many of them coming from our own farm. The decor was simple yet elegant with special touches from Gary Hamel who brought some items from his own impressionist collection including a Matisse lithograph. It was another magical night for our family in this idyllic setting.
This year's Dinner at Sunset took place in the corn maze. The field of corn has always reminded us of the nostalgic movie, "Field of Dreams" so this year we gave a nod to the movie with the design of the menu. You'll notice the hand stitching resembling the stitching on a baseball and the font you might see on signs at your local ball park. "Field of Dreams" takes place on a farm in Iowa so we kept the color scheme and decor within that farm theme using a vintage picnic cloth and a larger blue checkered table cloth. We used grains as simple centerpieces. We kept the menu as local as we could though given the ball park theme we had to deviate just a bit.
